IT’S BLUE MONDAY, RED-HOT TUESDAY
It’s wahey-Watch Rain – but then we sizzle
BRITAIN will be a washout today before a two-day sub-tropical sizzle makes us hotter than Greece.
A nationwide soaking will strike as 50mph winds and persistent rain pelt the country, easing drought fears.
But forecasters say summer will return tomorrow as temperatures hit 25C – potentially making it the hottest day of the year.
Met Office forecaster Charlie Powell said: “It is going to be a pretty rotten start to the week for some, particularly western and northwestern regions, western Scotland and perhaps parts of Wales and the southwest. We are expecting heavy rain and some strong winds as a low pressure system barrels in from the Atlantic.
“This will bring a couple of inches of rain to some parts and winds will reach gale force.”
But once the rain stops, it will be time to dust off the bikinis.
Mr Powell added: “We expect more in the way of humid warmth rather than sunshine and blue skies.
“Low to mid-20s is possible, with 25C potentially in the odd spot. It will feel close.”
Tuesday is expected to nudge the hottest day of the year so far – 25.5C in Cambridge on April 9.
The heat is due to a pulse of sub-tropical air making Britain hotter than 20C Kefalonia in Greece, and as hot as Maui in Hawaii.
