TEARFUL John Terry hailed Roman Abramovich as the best owner in football and then backed him to go on a transfer splurge.

An emotional Terry waved goodbye to Chelsea after making his 717th appearance for the club and his last at Stamford Bridge for the Blues.

The club’s most successful skipper was given a guard of honour by his team-mates and a standing ovation by fans as he came off in the 26th minute, 26 being his squad number.

It was the players’ idea and both Blues manager Antonio Conte and Sunderland boss David Moyes went along with it.

And when Terry, who is weighing up offers to play elsewhere next season, was later handed the microphone for an emotional farewell speech, he knew just who to thank.

Terry, 36, said: “We all have to thank Roman Abramovich. He is the best owner in world football.

“You always wonder what this day would be like. I thought I would be alright but I have just melted.

“I’m going to have a few weeks off before deciding anything. I want to play. That’s why I’ve called it a day at Chelsea, I didn’t want to stand in the way.

“Chelsea need to strengthen in the transfer window. I wouldn’t be surprised if five or six players come in.”

And as well as finally lifting the trophy they won on May 12 at West Brom, Chelsea became the first team to win 30 Premier League games in a season.

Goals from Willian, Eden Hazard, Pedro and two from Michy Batshuayi made Javier Manquillo’s opener little consolation for the relegated Black Cats. Chelsea advant but th to add
