I’M GOING FOUR IT

- By CHRIS McKENNA

GEORGE GROVES is more interested in being world champion than feeling the love of the British public.

The Londoner has his fourth world title shot when he fights for the WBA super-middleweight belt against Fedor Chudinov in Sheffield on Saturday.

Groves, 29, could follow former British heavyweight Frank Bruno in winning a world title at the fourth attempt.

Bonus

He said: “There is comfort in knowing a British icon finally became a world champion after four attempts.

“Bruno was loved by everyone, but I just want to win a belt and I don’t mind if people like me, that would be an added bonus.”

Groves lost his first world title shot against former IBF and WBA champion Carl Froch in controversial fashion in 2013. He was stopped prematurely by referee Howard Foster before Froch delivered a more conclusive finish in their rematch at Wembley Stadium in May 2014 with an eighth-round KO.

A shot at ex-WBC title holder Badou Jack in September 2015 ended in a split-decision defeat for Groves.

But the Hammersmith puncher, who has looked much improved since linking up with coach Shane McGuigan, will use the pain of those defeats to spur him on.

“I know what it feels like to lose,” he said ahead of the Bramall Lane showdown.

“But I genuinely believe I am a better fighter than Chudinov. I always thought I was a better fighter than Froch and Jack, but it’s not just down to that this time.

“I have a few other advantages now. I have a good, experienced team that I truly have faith in.” ¬ Sky Sports Box Office will show Brook v Spence Jnr and Groves v Chudinov exclusively live. Order at skysports.com/brook
