FARKE TO PRESS ON

Norwich boss gets his orders

- by PETER LAYTON

NORWICH are banking on new boss Daniel Farke to have the same success as Jurgen Klopp and David Wagner.

Farke moves to Carrow Road from his job as Under-23 team manager at Klopp’s old team Borussia Dortmund.

The German has been handed a two-year contract by the Canaries with a brief to win promotion.

Record

He took over the role at Dortmund after Wagner was lured to Huddersfield by Stuart Webber, who is now the sports director at Norwich.

And after Wagner led Huddersfield to next Monday’s Championship play-off final against Reading, Webber will be hoping lightning can strike twice.

He said: “If it has worked before, it would be silly not to try it again.

“Germany has a fantastic record recently for producing great coaches and we think Daniel will be a really good fit.

“Dortmund are obviously known for employing high-class coaching talent and Daniel will bring a certain style and identity to Norwich that the fans hopefully can relate to.

“I spent a lot of time getting to know how Daniel works and he was the outstanding candidate. We want to win and obviously our aim now is to get back to the Premier League.”

The 40-year-old, Norwich’s first foreign boss, said: “I like dominating possession and games. I want the team to be brave, attacking with high pressing.

“The more I know about Norwich, the more excited I get.

“I have spoken to David Wagner and if I can have the same sort of success, then everything will be fine.

“It’s a great adventure for me. I can’t wait to get started. But it’s too early to talk about targets and goals and positions in the league next season.”

Caretaker boss Alan Irvine may stay on as part of Farke’s staff because of his knowledge of the Championship and the Norwich players.
