LEEDS EYE RANIERI RETURN

-

CLAUDIO RANIERI could be set for a shock return to management with Leeds. The Championship club have targeted the Italian after Garry Monk quit on Thursday following a dispute over the length of contract he had been offered. It has left the Yorkshire outfit reeling and fans stunned weeks after Leeds just missed out on the play-offs. New owner Andrea Radrizzani could now turn to Ranieri in what would be a huge coup for Leeds. Ranieri (left) has been out of work since being sacked by Leicester in February, just nine ®Êby JEREMY CROSS months after leading them to the Premier League title.

The 65-year-old Italian has been in demand ever since but has turned down several offers, including deals with Inter Milan and Watford.

But Starsport can reveal Radrizzani has approached Ranieri about taking charge and feels he can lure him to Elland Road.

Radrizzani took full control of Leeds this week after buying out Massimo Cellino and is on a mission to take the club back into the top flight. The millionaire businessman is convinced Ranieri would be the perfect boss to get Leeds promoted.

It remains to be seen if he would be willing to take on the challenge of a Championship club.

Rafa Benitez remained with Newcastle following relegation in 2016 and managed to lead them back to the Premier League this season.

Radrizzani is now hoping Ranieri could bring similar success to Elland Road.

If Ranieri turns down Leeds, it is understood Radrizzani will move for former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka.
