Alex’s Swede success

- By PETER LAING

ALEX NOREN’S stunning final round of 62 helped the Swede win his fifth European Tour title in 11 months in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Noren overturned a seven-shot deficit yesterday after firing eight birdies and an eagle to set a new course record on the revamped West Course.

Open champion Henrik Stenson was among the chasing pack who faded on the closing stretch to leave Noren free to collect the £894,000 prize money.

Italy’s Francesco Molinari finished in second place, a shot ahead of Nicolas Colsaerts, Hideto Tanihara and Stenson.

England’s Graeme Storm finished tied sixth on seven under. Lee Westwood, ® who began the day three off the lead, carded a final-round one-over 73 to finish joint 14th.

Ian Poulter’s hopes of qualifying for next month’s US Open automatically from this event by reaching the top 60 in the world with a high finish were dashed by his putter.

He did manage a two-under 70 to close but was languishing in a tie for 40th spot and his place in the season’s second Major is still on hold.

World No.13 Noren said: “It feels amazing. It’s a tough course mentally coming down the stretch. But I putted probably the best I’ve ever putted.” DSUV02 • Superb quality lens and hinges • Choice of four stylish frame designs • Available in six strengths (Diopters) • FREE cleaning cloth pouches • Normal Price £15.98 • Sun/Shade Readers Double Pack Qty: I enclose a cheque for £ Price P&P Qty(Total) Total
