Diver Moses was ‘too tired’

ANTONIO CONTE has astonishingly blamed tiredness for Victor Moses’ outrageous dive at Wembley which landed the Nigerian a red card.

Moses was shown a second yellow by referee Anthony Taylor after a theatrical tumble in the box under pressure from Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Replays showed there was no contact and Taylor was right to send off Moses in Saturday’s FA Cup Final.

But Chelsea boss Conte, who insisted he had not seen the incident, said Moses would not have

gone down on purpose to try to earn a penalty for his team as they trailed 1-0.

“We are at the end of the season and with players tired there is a lot of pressure,” said the Italian.

“Moses is an honest player and if there was this situation he was tired and he didn’t want to cheat the referee.”

Upset by his red card, Moses cheered himself up by getting married yesterday before Chelsea’s end-of-season dinner.

The game’s other big controversial moment came as Alexis Sanchez appeared to handle the ball in the build-up to Arsenal’s opener.

Aaron Ramsey was also in an offside position before Sanchez tucked the ball away, Taylor deciding the Arsenal midfielder had not been interfering with play. Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois was unhappy with both incidents, dubbing Sanchez’s use of his hands as a “volleyball block”.

Courtois also revealed Taylor had been to Chelsea’s training ground to clarify the rules on handball.

He said: “It was at the beginning of the season, and it was the same referee.

“They say that the hands should always be in a natural position.

“If he has his hands next to him and he gets the ball to the arm, he can not do anything about it. But now he actually does a volleyball block. It’s one of the best blocks I’ve seen.”
