APPLE’S clever payment system, which launched in the UK almost two years ago, appears to be getting more popular than ever.

The service, that allows Apple users to pay at the till with a simple tap of their iPhone, has grown in the UK.

Speaking to StarTech, Jennifer Bailey, the head of Apple’s payments service said: “Our momentum has been fantastic. We are really excited about the progress.

“In the UK, points of acceptance have grown by 44% in the last year, while monthly Apple Pay transactions have risen by nearly 300%.”

But many iPhone users still appear a little confused about how much you can actually spend via their device. Contactless cards only allow a maximum of £30 to be spent but Apple Pay is different.

Because it’s so secure, Apple recently announced that thousands of shops and stores now allow limitless payments via its service.

This means iPhone owners can pay for pretty much anything, including their weekly shop, without ever having to open their wallets. Mary Dunn, communications director at Aldi, said: “Providing customers with an efficient instore experience is a key priority.

“Apple Pay is a perfect example of making shopping easier and quicker for our customers.”

Apple Pay works with the iPhone 6 or later (including iPhone SE) and iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 or later. It also works on the Apple Watch.
