Yaya’s joy as he nets City deal

- By JEREMY CROSS

YAYA TOURE has completed a remarkable turnaround after signing a new one-year deal to stay at Manchester City.

The midfielder will remain at the Etihad after snubbing big-money offers from home and abroad.

It is further proof that the 34-year-old (right) has won over boss Pep Guardiola.

Toure’s time at City looked doomed after he spent the first three months of last season in exile following a bust-up with Guardiola.

But he forced his way back into the City manager’s plans and yesterday Toure said: “I’m delighted. I told myself the journey at

City was not done. The manager has trusted me a lot and made me believe.

“I am very lucky now to be part of a great club with great players around me who are helping me to achieve my targets.

“Of course, I want to win trophies – that is very important to me. I want to enjoy it at this age still and remaining here is a massive, massive thing.”

City have already embarked on a summer spree by signing Monaco playmaker Bernardo Silva for £43m with £34.7m Benfica goalkeeper Ederson to follow.

But Toure remains part of the first-team picture after seven years and almost 300 appearances.

He added: “It is a great club, going in the right direction with new players who are coming in.

“The fans and the people who work for this club have to expect a lot from the players, to bring trophies and make this club become the most important one in the world.”
