WAYNE ROONEY could make his last appearance for Manchester United tomorrow.

The England and United legend will take part in Michael Carrick’s testimonial at Old Trafford.

But it could prove to be the final time United fans see him in the famous red shirt, with speculation mounting that he is about to bring the curtain down on his glittering 13-year career with the club.

Starsport understands former United boss Louis van Gaal will return to Old Trafford for the first time since being sacked in 2016.

Van Gaal left in acrimonious circumstances after winning the FA Cup but is set to attend the game.

Mulling

But the focus of attention is expected to be on Rooney, who has spent the last week considering his future.

The 31-year-old has had a difficult season and has struggled to hold down a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI.

He has 12 months remaining on his £300,000-a-week deal with the option of a further season.

But he has made it clear he wants to be starting games more regularly and has been mulling over offers from England, Europe, America and China.

United bosses are keen for him to stay, but Rooney is reluctant to hang around in the knowledge he will be nothing more influential than a squad player.

It could prove to be an emotional afternoon for Rooney, who broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time scoring record last season for both club and country.

Joining Rooney at Carrick’s testimonial will be the stars of United’s 2008 Champions League-winning side.

These include Edwin van der Sar, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Patrice Evra, Gary Neville and Dimitar Berbatov.

The team will be managed by Sir Alex Ferguson and will be up against an All-Stars squad that features some of the game’s greats.

These include Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Gaizka Mendieta, Clarence Seedorf, Eric Abidal and John Terry.
