KANE CAN JOIN ELITE

says EMILE HESKEY

- by PAUL BROWN

HARRY KANE has been tipped to one day rival Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or.

That is the view of former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey, who believes Kane is massively underrated on the world stage.

Heskey, who won 62 caps playing alongside England greats like Michael Owen and Alan Shearer, is a huge fan of the Tottenham star.

It has been 10 years since anyone other than Messi or Ronaldo won the prize awarded to the world’s best player.

But Heskey said: “Harry Kane can win it. Why not? He’s the most complete striker we have and he’s doing it consistently.

“Messi and Ronaldo won’t dominate forever. Because of them, it’s all about flair and flash and hairstyles for younger fans.

Tough

“We probably put less value on goalscorers today. But pure football fans still appreciate them. We all should.

“Kane has gone from season to season getting better and better. To do that and score the number of goals he has is tough.

“Don’t forget he missed about three months of last season and still ended up scoring 29 goals.”

Kane’s final tally was eight behind Messi, who played four more matches in La Liga, and four ahead of Ronaldo, who played one game less.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier with Scotland, in association with England partners Lidl, Heskey said he believes Kane is not just about goals because he’s the kind of classic centreforward some say is going out of fashion.

Heskey’s biggest assets were his workrate and link-up play and he added: “You have to have that. When the goals dry up, you have to be a presence.”

Emile Heskey supports ‘Fuelling Footballers’, a campaign from Lidl, Official Supermarket of the England team, who have created eight healthy and affordable recipes with the FA chef to help parents fuel their children, with products from Lidl.
