THE successful detective drama is returning to our screens for a fifth series.
Idris Elba will be donning his famous trademark coat once again to play angst-ridden cop DCI John Luther in the dark BBC crime thriller.
Fans will be thrilled. However, the move means it now looks unlikely Idris will be the new James Bond. He had been one of the favourites to take over from Daniel Craig as 007 but since filming on the new Luther starts early next year, this would rule him out.

The actor said of the recommission: “I am thrilled we have been able to bring it all together. I look forward to putting the coat back on.”
Luther’s last series aired in 2015. But its future hung in the balance because of Idris’s increasing populariLINDSAY ty and workload as he signed for movies such as Star Trek, Thor, The Jungle Book and Zootopia.
There had been talk of a movie to tie up loose ends.
However, Luther is back for a new four-part series. BBC Studios executive producer Hilary Salmon said: “We will be pulling out all the stops to make the show bigger and more scary than ever.” Come Dancing. ¬ BBC bosses have axed X Factor-style sob stories from their new Saturday night talent show as they want the full focus to be on the music.
TV judge and choirmaster Gareth Malone tells Radio Times: “It’s about musical performance. It’s not a popularity contest.”
He relishes being the new Simon Cowell, saying: “I will be using technical terms, talking about dynamics and choral support.” ¬
The show is on BBC One at 7.30pm this Saturday.
