JEREMY Corbyn is set to go down a storm with crowds at Glastonbury.

The Labour leader, 68, has been promoted to the festival’s main stage next week after a strong showing in the General Election. He is likely to prove popular when he appears on the prized Pyramid stage on the Saturday afternoon.

Mr Corbyn is to introduce US rap duo Run The Jewels – who supported US senator Bernie Sanders’ bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Mr Corbyn had to pull out of a Glastonbury appearance last year following the EU referendum.

Festival founder Michael Eavis, 81, will appear on stage with him

Mr Eavis said: “We’re Corbyn fans. He’s got something new and precious, and people are excited. He is the hero of the hour. His festival date follows an election campaign which saw Mr Corbyn interviewed by grime artist JME, appear on the front of NME and Kerrang! magazines, and speak to thousands at a Libertines concert.

Mr Eavis’s daughter Emily, who also organises the festival, praised Mr Corbyn’s approach to engaging young people.

She said: “It felt like the whole world was shifting dramatically to the right.

“I think that this is a breath of fresh air – people are like ‘No, enough, we’re not going to let it happen’.”
