Powell can ease cup final misery

® defeat, the last one in 2013 when they beat Hull 16-0.

However, Powell wasn’t part of that squad and today he joins a group of big hitters who return to boost Wigan.

They have been ravaged by injuries and have picked up just one point from their last seven games.

Powell said: “This is one we have to win but I am confident and the team is confident that we can go on and do good things this year.”

Liam Farrell, Sean O’Loughlin, John Bateman and Anthony Gelling also return, while Sam Tomkins could make his first appearance of the season. Warrington are arguably even more desperate to get to the semi-finals, with their only hope of silverware resting on this game.

They are 10th and even if they make the top eight, when the Super League splits, they’re not likely to challenge for the title.

Forward Joe Westerman said: “If we can win, we’re in the semi-final. It would give us so much momentum to take into a massive last five league games before the split.”

Warrington have signed centre Ben Pomeroy, 33, from French side Lezignan Sangliers until the end of the season. He is expected to arrive next week.
