Hard-hit parents face hol struggle
NEARLY half of parents are already trying to cut their spending to save up for the summer holidays.
About 40% will put away an average of £220 this month so they can entertain their children in July and August.
About 10% said they started planning and saving for the holidays up to six months in advance.
And more than a third said they usually had to make cutbacks when the holidays end after blowing the budget.
Research by deals website Groupon said parents spent an average of £250 on children’s activities while they are off school.
Nearly two-thirds try to plan activities for their children before the holidays start, but nearly half admit they are struggling for new ideas by the end of August.
Groupon has created a “Summer Sorted” calendar to help give families ideas for summer activities.
Boss Julie Szudarek said: “Parents are bombarded on a daily basis by images of perfect family scenes, relaxing holidays and calm reading sessions, but we know the reality is usually far more chaotic.”
