CONCERNS are growing for British tourists after forest fires killed 62 people in Portugal.

Many victims were “incinerated” in their cars as they tried to flee the blaze.

Another 54 people were injured ® and taken to hospitals, including four in a serious condition.

Police fear the death toll in Pedrogao Grande, near the famous university city of Coimbra, will rise as many are missing.

Witnesses spoke of seeing about 60 separate fires form a ring of flames in one area, trapping frantic victims on a road.

One of the first to be named was four-year-old Rodrigo Rosario.

The tragic youngster’s body was discovered next to his uncle’s burned-out car.

His relative was found inside the shell of the vehicle. Police believe the fires were caused by lightning strikes.

Prime Minister António Costa, who has declared three days of mourning, said it was “the greatest tragedy we have seen in recent years in terms of forest fires”.
