Mo wings in for Kop

- By MIKE WHALLEY

MOHAMED SALAH has flown into England as Liverpool prepare to tie up a record £40m deal.

The winger (right) will have a medical today as the Kop club prepare to make the Roma star their most expensive signing.

The Egyptian’s arrival will shatter the previous record set when they paid Newcastle £35m for Andy Carroll in January 2011.

Jurgen Klopp wants the former Chelsea man to

play on one flank, with Sadio Mane on the other, to form part of a three-man attack next season.

He believes that Salah’s pace and goal threat will give the Reds the lift they need to combine a Premier League title push with a Champions League challenge.

Liverpool have had to dig deep to finance the deal having seen an initial bid of £28m rejected last month.

But they have made major progress in talks over the last few days and are set to snap up Salah on a five-year contract worth £90,000 a week.

The deal will represent a huge profit for Roma, who paid Chelsea just £12m last summer after Salah had a successful season on loan in the Italian capital. It will see the Egypt star also become the costliest African player with his fee beating the £34.5m Southampton received from Liverpool for Mane a year ago. Salah, 25, will be Klopp’s second summer signing after the capture of England Under-20 World Cup-winning striker Dominic Solanke, 19, from Chelsea. Klopp (left) will not end his spending there with Leipzig’s Naby Keita, 22, also on his shopping list. The Reds will have to shell out even more to land the Guinea midfielder, who is valued at £50m. Hull left-back Andrew Robertson, 23, is another target.
