Football bosses check out stadiums

- By HELENE PERKINS news@dailystar.co.uk

TOP football stadiums could be covered in the same killer cladding as Grenfell Tower.

Urgent safety checks are already being carried out on flats, schools and hospitals.

Bosses at Brighton and Hove Albion FC have started re-testing materials at The Amex Stadium and the training complex.

It is believed the Reynobond cladding that burned at the tower block may have been used.

Working

Other clubs could now be forced to check their grounds.

Brighton director Martin Perry said: “We are fully satisfied that the American Express Community Stadium is entirely safe.

“However, following the terrible events at Grenfell Tower, we are now taking the added precaution of working with our contractor and suppliers to re-check all of the materials used during construction.”

The Sports Grounds Safety Authority said: “Sports grounds should be carrying out regular ® risk assessment as part of their overall fire safety audit.”

More than 40,000 people are facing evacuation from 60 tower blocks in 25 council authorities throughout England, which failed new fire tests.

So far, 3,000 residents have been moved from 600 homes on the Chalcots Estate in north London. The Grenfell Tower death toll stands at 79.

Experts now fear highly flammable insulation could be even more dangerous than cladding.

Det Chief Supt Fiona McCormack said insulation burst into flames soon after the Grenfell fire broke out and added it was “more flammable.” This could mean insulation will need to be tested on buildings as well.

Doncaster, Norwich, Stocktonon-Tees and Sunderland all had buildings that failed tests, while Manchester, Plymouth and Portsmouth have been named.

Grime star Stormzy told officials to “tell the f ****** truth” about Grenfell Tower in his Glastonbury set.
