Lost black dog

NEW ALBUM FULL OF JOY AND LOVE

-

IMAGINE Dragons’ Dan Reynolds was able to make a more uplifting LP after taking time off.

The Las Vegas rocker has opened up about his struggle with depression.

He says he’s now in a good place – and that’s reflected in their new album Evolve, which is out now.

Dan told me: “We really had time to heal and reconnect with our families and the community and that’s reflected in the album. We were able to make an album that’s less dark and angsty.

“When I started writing Evolve with Wayne I was in such a happy place and it produced a more clean and uplifting record.

“When we wrote Smoke And Mirrors that was a really heavy place for me, I was super depressed and just searching and we ended up with these dark songs.”

And his journey to losing his black dog is documented on the album, as the guys used Dan’s journal entries as ideas and lyrics for songs. He added: “Every day I was writing, so after two years I had hundreds of entries.”

Although Dan and lead guitarist Wayne Sermon admitted their families are struggling with them being back on the road.

Dan continued: “Our single goal has always been to provide for our families; Wayne has two little boys and I have three little girls.

“We don’t own huge mansions or flashy cars, we just try our best for our family, it’s tough being on the road for our wives and for us.”
