WAGNER: I’M UP FOR FIGHT
HUDDERSFIELD boss David Wagner has signed a new two-year deal after claiming his side are the biggest underdogs in Premier League history.
Wagner was a wanted man after ending the Terriers’ 45-year exile from the top flight last season.
Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Hull and Crystal Palace were linked with the German, but he has committing himself to Huddersfield until 2019.
Wagner, who used to coach Jurgen Klopp’s reserve team at Borussia Dortmund, has transformed the Terriers since arriving in November 2015.
Wagner said: “We are not stupid, we are the biggest Premier League underdog ever.
“But Huddersfield are still ambitious. We’re not just here to say hello.
“We will have to adapt to the Premier League. But we will not change our footballing philosophy – that would make no sense.” The Terriers yesterday broke their transfer record to sign Aaron Mooy (below) from Manchester City for £10m.
Mooy’s arrival, after spending last season on loan, means Huddersfield have broken their transfer record twice in a week.
They paid Porto £3.5m for Belgian striker Laurent Depoitre last weekend and there are more signings in the pipeline.
Benin international forward Steve Mounie was having a medical yesterday as he closes in on an £11m switch from Montpellier.
The Terriers have also signed Denmark keeper Jonas Lossl on a season’s loan from Bundesliga club Mainz.
