ALEXIS: I’M OFF

Sanchez hint as City lie in wait

- By JEREMY CROSS

ALEXIS SANCHEZ has dropped the clearest hint yet that he is ready to quit Arsenal for Manchester City.

Etihad bosses have made the Chile star their No.1 target this summer and are confident of completing a £50m deal.

Sanchez has revealed he has decided on his future and refused to confirm he will stay with the Gunners.

When asked if he could join Chile team-mate Claudio Bravo at City, Sanchez (left) said: “Good question.

“Right now I’m focused on the Confederations Cup. When this is finished I will see if I stay or if I go.”

When pressed on where he would be playing his football next season, the 28-year-old added: “Yes it’s clear, but I can’t tell you.”

Sanchez has just 12 months left on his Emirates contract and has refused to sign a new and improved one.

The Gunners have offered him a deal worth around £250,000 a week that would make him the highest-paid star

in the club’s history. But Starsport understands Sanchez is keen on joining City to be reunited with Pep Guardiola, who signed him when he was Barcelona boss.

Etihad bosses have decided to wait until Sanchez has completed his involvement in the Confederations Cup – Chile face Germany in tomorrow’s final – before making an opening bid.

Guardiola identified Sanchez as his main target last season and told the club to land him. The Spanish boss is on a mission to build a team capable of winning the Champions League. A straight swap involving Sergio Aguero has also been discussed, with City ready to give Sanchez a long-term deal worth around £275,000 a week.

Sanchez leaving could clear the way for a club record £50m-plus deal to sign Lyon’s France striker Alexandre Lacazette.

The 26-year-old’s fee is expected to eclipse the £42.4m that the Gunners paid Real Madrid for Germany’s Mesut Ozil in 2013.
