Great Scott beats heat to land top chub

-

SCOTT HAMILTON defied the UK heatwave to smash his personal best with a 7lb 10oz chub.

Targeting a local stretch of the River Lea, the Herts-based rod used a homemade boilie to fool the superb chevin.

It turned out to be the only fish of the trip – not surprising given the sweltering conditions – and beat his old PB by 9oz.

Dean Aldridge landed 17 catfish in an amazing 48-hour session at a day-ticket water in Essex, his best weighing 97lb 10oz.

The Londoner took the predators, which included two over 60lb and three over 70lb, with a mixture of Big Cat UK’s pellets and carpet feed soaked in Bait Sauce.

He kept the swim topped up as the cats continued to feed. For hookbaits he alternated between pellets and pop-ups.

The 97-pounder came as Dean was packing up, the giant taking the bait while the rods were on the floor and the gear being loaded into the car. ¬ÊA specimen 54lb tope was the perfect way for Jordan Russell to celebrate his first trip in a new boat.

The tackle shop boss took the predator a mile out from Blackpool, beating it after a 40-minute scrap.

A fresh mackerel hookbait landed Jordan his ‘fish of a lifetime’.

Globetrotting UK angler Greg Iszatt has smashed the world record for a golden mahseer with a stunning 66lb fish. The Oxfordshire-based rod took the monster from the Mahakali River in the north of India, his only catch in five difficult days fishing.

The capture of the rare fish had become an obsession for Greg, and he achieved his ambition thanks to presenting a snow trout on a size 4/0 hook.

The official IGFA world record for the species stands at 44lb, caught in 2013.
