NEZWAAH’S first Group One win at the Curragh was the best result for Brits abroad yesterday.

“She was very impressive,” said Andrea Atzeni of the Pretty Polly winner. “She was a little bit slow into her stride but she travelled beautifully into the race and picked up really well.

“I got quite a smooth run and just had to wait to get a gap.

“Two days ago we didn’t know if she was going to run or not because of the weather, but Roger felt the ground was going to be fine for her and she’s proved him right.”

John Gosden’s Journey was a disappointing favourite. She only beat one home, and was three places behind Sir Michael Stoute’s Smart Call which was seventh.

Paul Midgley sent three over for the E100,000 Tote Rockingham Handicap but Naggers, Desert Law and Elysian Flyer all finished down the field.

Ralph Beckett’s Air Pilot was fifth of six in the Finlay Volvo International, so barely paid for the journey over.

Elidor was a close third behind Rekindling and Wicklow Brave in the Curragh Cup.

My Dream Boat fared best of our three in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, coming fourth.

It was a case of ‘close but no cigar’ for Elas Ruby, third in the Prix de Malleret. Horseplay was fourth and Hugo Palmer’s Vintage Folly last.
