Jay aiming to cap it all with Albion
® JAY RODRIGUEZ set his sights on an England recall after completing his £12m move to West Brom.
The striker is aiming to follow new team-mate Jake Livermore back into Gareth Southgate’s squad after sealing his switch from Southampton to The Hawthorns.
Rodriguez, 27, won one England cap in 2013 before serious knee injuries wrecked the end of his Southampton career. Injuries also finished his hopes of playing at the 2014 World Cup.
He wants to emulate Livermore, who joined West Brom from Hull in January and then won his first England cap for five years.
“The target is to set our sights as high as possible and be the best that you can be – both as a team and an individual,” said Rodriguez.
Better
“The team is full of top players and it’s pretty clear that they are also a great set of lads.
“Look at what has happened to Jake after he joined, getting back into the England squad. My aim is to keep improving, keep working hard and hopefully help Albion get better.
“If the England squad opens up for me again as a result, that would be fantastic.”
Albion boss Tony Pulis landed his man on a four-year deal yesterday, 12 months after a proposed loan move from Southampton broke down.
“There’s a lot to come from me,” said Rodriguez. “I am fully over the injury but for whatever reason it didn’t work out for me at Southampton last season.
“I worked hard, I was always willing to do extra work because that’s always been my attitude and I was fully fit.
“I’ve come through it and I am a lot wiser for it.
“There’s still a lot more to come from me and I want to continue to improve.”
