Novak’s whole new ball game

- by IAIN STEWART

NOVAK DJOKOVIC has changed his attitude and replaced his diet.

But the Serbian star will never give up the winning feeling that has brought him 12 Grand Slam titles, including three Wimbledon crowns.

The No.2 seed has that desire again after beating Gael Monfils on Saturday to win the Aegon International final in Eastbourne. He starts his Wimbledon campaign tomorrow against Slovakia’s 44th-ranked Martin Klivan.

Winning used to occupy his every waking second but he admits his appetites have changed at the age of 30.

Djokovic (right) said: “I used to base all my happiness on winning a tennis match, but I try not to do that any more.

“It’s not like I don’t care now, but winning or losing a confrontation is no longer an essential in my life.

“It is no longer something that determines my happiness or how I feel.

“For instance I had positive experiences on and off the court at Eastbourne and I will not rule out going back there to play again.

“It was a great week and it filled me with positive energy. I played four good matches and left me with a trophy and good feelings about my game.”

A change of diet has made Djokovic healthier too.

So don’t bet against him winning Wimbledon again, whether he’s bothered or not.
