PRINCESS Kate wore a stunning polka dot dress as she cheered Andy Murray to a straight-sets Wimbledon victory.

She gave him a special royal boost during his opening Centre Court clash yesterday.

PRINCESS Kate looked the image of her mother-in-law Diana at Wimbledon in a stunning polka dot dress.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 35, wore the striking outfit as she cheered Sir Andy Murray to a straight-sets victory yesterday.

Her frock was almost identical to one worn by the Princess of Wales at Ascot in 1986 and 1988.

The Dolce & Gabbana garment will sell out in hours, retail experts said last night.

Dresses worn by the royal usually fly off the shelves in the so-called “Kate effect”, said global fashion search engine Lyst.

“After she’s photographed in an outfit, we usually see a sell out or sales drastically increase,” Lyst editor Charlotte Austin revealed.

Meanwhile dad-to-be Andy said he was feeling “really positive” after his win.

He has battled a sore hip in the past few weeks and was seen limping on court before the tournament began.

But the reigning champion cruised to a 6-1 6-4 6-2 win over Russian Alexander Bublik.

The Brit’s wife Kim, 29, supported her hubby and is already showing a baby bump. The couple have a one-year-old daughter, Sophia.

Fans were faced with the toughest ever security in Wimbledon’s 131year history.

Armed police were patrolling the grounds and sniffer dogs searched for explosives.

Secret

Visitors were scanned with metal detectors and every bag was searched before entry.

And an army of undercover detectives mingled among the crowds.

Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis said: “The most visible difference is the vehicle blockers in the park which have been put in because of recent terrorist attacks.”

He added that many of the top secret security measures are “under the radar”.

Spirits were high regardless. “We were told to expect this after recent attacks and it’s a great atmosphere anyway,” said pensioner Maureen Atkins, 75.

Wallis Harvey, who had camped out since Saturday for tickets, said: “It was pretty painless. Everybody was in a good mood.”

Rain only briefly stopped play yesterday and blue skies are forecast today.

Big name fans seen enjoying the tournament yesterday included Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall, 24, Captain America star Dominic Cooper, 39, bestselling author Bill Bryson, 65, and singer Sir Cliff Richard, 76.

Sadly for fans of British players, Laura Robson, Naomi Broady and Cameron Norrie all crashed out in the first round.

Robson, 23, admitted she was “overwhelmed by nerves”.
