I WANT TO BOSS BLUES

JT targets dream job

- By STEVE MADELEY

JOHN TERRY wants to return to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea boss.

The 36-year-old former England skipper yesterday signed a one-year deal to play on with Aston Villa.

But he is already eyeing a career in management – and his dream is to take charge of the Blues.

Terry, who has discussed his ambition with ex-team-mate and close pal Frank Lampard, said: “I think that’s a goal for all of us.

“Me and Lamps have had those conversations. I don’t think you can ever dream too big.

“I’ve always wanted to be the very best and if that’s in management

then Chelsea’s the one and in an ideal world that would be incredible. But I do realise that you can’t go to somewhere like Chelsea as your first job.

“You need to go and learn, maybe in the academy like Stevie Gerrard is doing at Liverpool.”

Terry has already been contacted by FA coaching chief Dan Ashworth, who is encouraging members of England’s “golden generation” to cut their coaching teeth with Three Lions youth sides.

But Terry said he was still 100 per cent committed to playing after signing a one-year deal at Villa Park, with an option for a second.

He said he turned down Premier League offers from the likes of West Brom, Bournemouth and Swansea because he couldn’t face playing against Chelsea, who he left following more than 700 appearances and 15 major trophies.

And that could mean another tough decision next summer if he helps Villa back to the top flight.

“The mental side of playing against Chelsea was too much to get over for me,” he added. “I had 22 years there.

“Promotion would give me a big decision to make but if you were to offer me that today – to get into the Premier League with Aston Villa – then I would bite your arm off.

“It would give me the same problem as why I chose Villa, but in football we always say never rule anything out.”
