ARSENAL TO KICK IT OFF

- by PAUL BROWN

THE new Premier League season will kick off on a FRIDAY, with Arsenal’s home clash with Leicester live on Sky.

It will be the first time the top-flight season has started on a Friday night.

The Emirates will host the first game of the season as £52m new boy Alexandre Lacazette goes toe to toe with Jamie Vardy and Co. at 7.45pm on August 11.

Sky’s head of football Gary Hughes said: “Showing Arsenal’s record signing in the first match of the season, under the Friday night lights, is an exciting way to kick things off.”

BT Sport will kick off their coverage by showing Brighton’s Premier League debut against Manchester City the next day at 5.30pm.

With both TV firms announcing their live games for most of the first three months of the season, Arsenal are the biggest winners.

The Gunners will be on live six times before October 2, more than any other club. Liverpool, both Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Newcastle are all on five times.

The London derby between Spurs and champions Chelsea at Wembley will be shown live on Sky at 4pm on Sunday, August 20.

BT’s top pick is at the end of September when Chelsea host Manchester City.
