Murray’s up for it

- By IAN MURTAGH

® IVAN LENDL has declared Andy Murray fighting fit as the Brit closes in on his third Wimbledon title.

The big four of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Murray (above) are all in action today.

Lendl expects them to come through ‘Manic Monday’ and remain on course for two titanic

semi-finals later this week.

Murray’s coach has played down fears that he is struggling after he appeared to rub his knee during practice on Saturday.

And the Czech liked what he saw during the previous night’s hard-fought win over Fabio Fognini that suggested the Scot is in good nick ahead of today’s fourth-round match against Benoit Paire.

“That’s how people win tournaments – they fight. It doesn’t come easy,” said the eight-time Slam winner.

“You don’t always play your best and have to get through that and fighting is part of it.

“Finding his rhythm was very difficult, especially with the first two guys he played, but Andy is hitting it better and cleaner every practice now and getting his timing and rhythm back.”

Asked if he was worried by Murray’s physical state, Lendl said: “Do I look worried? Sometimes you feel tired and you have to push through that pain barrier.

“He’s in the second week now and so he’s in with a chance.

“The top guys are top guys because they do things a little bit better than the rest.

“Of course, they can be beaten, but most of the time they win because their package is slightly better than the guys below them.”
