A RECORD-breaking monster shark has been caught off the Isle Of Wight.

Fearless angler Wayne Comben landed the 15ft giant after a two-hour struggle.

A RECORD-breaking thresher shark was caught by a fearless angler – aboard a boat called Thresher.

The 15ft monster was reeled in alongside Wayne Comben’s 17ft boat near the Isle of Wight following an epic two-hour struggle.

But after being found to weigh 350lb – 27lb heavier than the previous British record for a thresher shark – the huge fish was released back into the sea.

Father-of-one Wayne, 50, said: “These ® sharks are very dangerous and powerful. If you get it wrong you’ll end up over the side of the boat.

“They have a huge fin which can cause a lot of damage and very sharp teeth.”

Wayne, from Havant, Hants, added: “It took me two hours to get the shark to the side of the boat because he made countless runs for it.

“He was an immense, very powerful creature – 350lb of solid muscle. “Once he slapped me with his fin and gave me a big bruise on my left shoulder.

“I’m fortunate it was not a full-on slap because I would have been knocked unconscious.

“But there was something quite thrilling about catching him.”

Thresher sharks are relatively rare visitors to the UK, usually being found in the warmer waters of the mid-Atlantic.

Wayne caught his close to where a great white shark has been spotted in recent weeks near Hayling Island, Hants.

However, it is only an unofficial British record as it was released and not killed and weighed on land.

The previous British record of 323lbs was caught off the coast of Portsmouth in 1982.
