‘THEY ARE LYING’

Charlie dad storms out of court after outburst at doctors

THE angry dad of terminally-ill Charlie Gard stormed out of court after accusing doctors of lying about his son’s condition.

Chris Gard interrupted the opening of a new hearing at the High Court.

He yelled at barristers representing Great Ormond Street Hospital where his lad is being treated: “When are you going to start telling the truth?”

Chris and partner Connie Yates were in court to hear new expert evidence in their battle ® to continue 11-month-old Charlie’s treatment.

They want to take him to the US for experimental treatment but medics will not allow it and judges have so far refused to rule against the hospital.

The parents hope it will help Charlie, who suffers from a rare genetic condition, to live longer. But medics say it will not improve his chances of “close to 0%”.

Interventions by Donald Trump and Pope Francis blew the case wide open again last week. Trump tweeted: “If we can help little #CharlieGard, as per our friends in the UK and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so.”

Since the comments, two international health care facilities say they have new evidence about the experimental treatment.

Connie and Chris, from west London, hope the new information will convince Mr Justice Francis to let them take Charlie to America.

Connie said: “Parents know when their children are ready to go and they’ve given up, and Charlie is still fighting.

“It’s horrible this decision has been taken out of our hands.”

After yesterday’s preliminary hearing, the judge ruled the case will be heard in full on Thursday.
