JOHANNA Konta looked stunned after becoming the first Brit woman to make Wimbledon’s semi finals in almost 40 years.

The 26-year-old was hailed a “superstar” by fans after her incredible win over Simona Halep yesterday.

Murray Mound was a sea of ponchos and umbrellas as dedicated spectators watched the drama unfold in the rain.

Jo looked totally overwhelmed after clinching her win in two hours 38 minutes. “I’ve always dreamt big,” she said afterwards.

She is the first Brit woman to make it this far since Virginia Wade in 1978.

The veteran tennis player high-fived people and gave Konta a lively nod from the royal box after her victory.

Afterwards Virginia said: “It was an absolutely stunning performance. It was brilliant, she never wavered one bit. I’m ultra impressed.

“I haven’t seen a player with the same sort of dedication and determination for a long time.”

She insisted a Konta win over Venus Williams is “absolutely on the cards”.

The crowd exploded into applause and standing ovations as Konta took the deciding set, earning her £550,000.

After her victory, Konta told the BBC it felt “a little bit surreal still”. Speaking about the raucous crowd, she added: “They were incredible.”

It was the biggest match of the Australian-born player’s life. This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield tweeted the nail-biter was “so gripping” while Andy Murray’s brother Jamie tweeted that she “totally deserved” the victory.

Britain’s hopes of a Wimbledon twin win for Muzza and Konta have rocketed.

Venus Williams won her 100th singles Wimbledon match against Jelena Ostapenko.

But the 37-year-old riled fans after appearing to snub a Chelsea Pensioner. James Stevenson said: “Venus Williams just said no to a selfie with a Chelsea pensioner. Harsh.”

Hundreds of fans camped out in the hope of getting golden Centre Court tickets for the men’s quarter final today.

Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are all in action.
