LOVE ISLE’S GAYWATCH

Now ITV chiefs plotting launch lesbian spin-off

LOVE Island bosses are looking to expand the smash-hit brand with same-sex couples in a lesbian spin-off show.

Millions of viewers have been hooked to the saucy X-rated antics of the hunks and honeys on ITV2 this summer.

And now delighted ITV chiefs want to cash in and set up a sister show for gay, lesbian and bi couples.

They reckon “Gaywatch” would be a mega hit with audiences and producers think they could get “double bubble” in the ratings.

Viewers have already questioned why there are only straight couples on the show.

But bosses could be looking to spring a late surprise in the current series to satisfy these demands. Show insiders say they are considering flying some lesbians to the love island to freshen things up in the last few weeks.

The move would be a great test to see how a gay edition would go down with the British public.

A source said: “The heterosexual couples this year have been amazing entertainment. But there is a feeling among producers that there could be more representation of the LGBT community.

“In 2017, they know they can’t go on forever pretending the gay community doesn’t exist. It’s only a matter of time.”

There was a brief lesbian love triangle during the show’s 2016 series when controversial Katie Salmon entered late.

She made sparks fly between couple Sophie Gradon and Tom Powell after picking Sophie in a recoupling.

But there have been no “out” contestants on this year’s show.

A Love Island spokesman said the show was not just for heterosexual couples.

He told the Daily Star: “The main stipulation for Love Island applicants is that they are single and looking for love, and we are open to all possibilities.”
