SHOW SOME RESPECT

BOXING Mayweather hits back as McGregor crosses line

- By CHISANGA MALATA

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JNR has slammed Conor McGregor for his lack of respect.

The UFC lightweight champion has come in for intense criticism for comments he has made during the pair’s show-stopping tour to promote their mega August 26 boxing match.

On two separate occasions the Irishman called undefeated ‘Money’ Mayweather “boy”, a word which has significant racial connotations to African Americans.

McGregor found himself in further trouble when video footage emerged of him allegedly referring to black boxers in Rocky III as “dancing monkeys”.

The 29-year-old apologised for his comments on Thursday evening and dismissed suggestions of him being a racist as “absolutely f***ing ridiculous”.

But Mayweather wasn’t impressed by what he saw as a half-hearted apology and believes he disrespected an entire race.

“It’s all about treating people like you want to be treated,” the 40-year-old said last night.

“To get respect, you must give respect. He ® totally disrespected black women, he called black people monkeys and then he spoke disrespectfully to my daughter’s mother and he spoke disrespectfully to my daughter.

“I’m not going to stoop that low and speak about his child.”

UFC president Dana White is adamant McGregor is not a racist and claims the comments have been blown out of proportion.

Dance

He said: “Conor was saying he had come over to him and he was dancing and Conor started saying, ‘Yeah dance for me, boy, dance for me. That was how the whole thing started.

“And then he said you have got 50 strippers on your payroll, that’s what he was talking about.

“This is what they do, I don’t think there’s any racial thing or he’s being racist.

“And Floyd came out yesterday and apparently he was treating us like strippers and throwing ones at us. You know, I don’t think he’s a racist.”
