TAI WOFFINDEN will carry on crashing through brick walls in his bid to be a World Championship record-breaker.

He wants to be Britain’s only threetime title-winner and is preparing for Saturday night’s British Grand Prix by slaving away 16 hours a day renovating a rundown six-bedroom farmhouse he has bought in Robin Hood country.

And he admits that his do-it-yourself obsession could help explain his sluggish start to the GP campaign as he goes to Cardiff trailing leader Jason Doyle by 17 points.

Woffy hopes to complete the massive building project by November, when his stunning wife Faye is due to have their first child, a girl.

He admitted: “That’s probably been affecting my performance but, at the end of the day, I have got a life to live and I need to do these things.

Digging

“I’m preparing a house that we are going to live in for five to 10 years and it has to be right.

“Every spare minute of the day is invested in the house when I could be resting. I’ve been planing doors, building brick walls, digging out footings, pouring concrete for lintels.

“I’m thinking about it from six o’clock in the morning when I wake up till 11 o’clock at night.

“I have been working flat out every day for a month. There’s three acres of garden and it was six foot under weeds.

“The house was very rundown but it’s something I’ve been working for since I got my first house.

“I’ve always wanted a house with a lake and a bit of land where I can build a mini-bike track where I can spend time riding. We are splitting ®Êby PETER OAKES the house, which has six bedrooms and 13 rooms in all, into two.

“I’m putting in two kitchens, two laundries, it’s essentially going to be a house with an annexe when finished.”

The Scunthorpe-born star, 26, who was brought up in Australia, added: “I am doing it all myself. I grew up doing the same thing because my parents always bought a house, renovated it and then moved on to the next one.

“I have always lived on a building site and I’ve done the same thing since I got my first house here. The next one after this will be my dream house in Australia.”

Work at the farmhouse is never out of his thoughts and he confessed: “I will be doing a track walk in Poland or Sweden and I will be talking on the phone about ordering something or getting something done.”

Woffinden isn’t sure what reaction he will get from fans at the Principality Stadium after upsetting a lot of them by standing down from the GB squad.

His uneasy relationship came to an end during the winter and he’s revealed one of the reasons is the team was taken for a pre-match World Cup meal at a kebab house!

He said: “That’s no way to prepare for a World Cup. That’s when it all started because they didn’t feel there was anything wrong with that. As professional athletes we shouldn’t be expected to eat kebabs.

“The last time I had one was when I was about 18 and I’d been out on the beer one night.” TICKETS are still available for Saturday’s British Grand Prix via this link: http://www. speedwaygp. com/event/ 2017-cardiff WOFFY AND WIFEY: Tai and missus Faye THE British FIM Speedway Grand Prix roars into Cardiff on Saturday.
