LUKE READY FOR BIG TEST

- By JEREMY CROSS

LUKE SHAW admits that this is going to be his make-or-break season at Manchester United.

The England defender knows he is running out of time to prove himself following a miserable three seasons at the club.

He has suffered non-stop injury and health problems since joining from Southampton in a £30m deal in 2014.

The lowest point came in Eindhoven in 2015 when he suffered an horrific double leg break.

He is now battling to prove his fitness again while on United’s pre-season tour of America after damaging his ankle back in April.

But Shaw insisted: “This is my season to prove myself – and I’m feeling in good shape.

“I want to show everyone that I believe in myself and show the manager that as well. I’m ® in a positive frame of mind and don’t want to talk too much about the past. I’ve been unlucky with injuries but I want to put that all in the past.”

Shaw thought he would not be invited on the trip to America because he was injured.

But he’s glad he was because it’s given him a chance to impress boss Jose Mourinho.

Shaw, who has featured in just 32 league games in the last three seasons, added: “I’m working hard.

“I’ve been doing rehab each day and a lot of cardiovascular work to keep me in good shape.

“I’ve had lots of chats with the manager and he’s keeping close tabs on how I’m getting on.

“The sooner I’m back the better – and hopefully it is soon because I want to get out there playing.”
