A SWINGING bobby persuaded a police flying squad to use their force helicopter to secretly film people in the nude, a jury heard.
Pc Adrian Pogmore, 51, convinced the team to use the £4million chopper’s camera to spy on unsuspecting sunbathers, it was alleged.
Among the footage captured by South Yorkshire Police’s eye-in-the-sky was a naked mum topping up her tan in her garden.
The chopper also filmed a couple in the buff as it hovered over a nudist camp.
The “mob” even recorded a pair of Pogmore’s swinger pals having sex in their garden.
During a clip of the romp shown to jurors yesterday, the woman appeared to wave at the chopper camera before performing a sex act on her lover on the patio. The pair went on to have outdoor sex in four different positions.
The footage was found on mini-videos which dad-oftwo Pogmore kept stashed in a police station drawer, a jury at Sheffield Crown Court heard. He admitted four charges of misconduct in a public office.
Blame
Serving police officer Matthew Lucas, 42, denies three identical allegations, while chief pilot Malcolm Reeves, has pleaded not guilty to two. Police officer Lee Walls, 47, and chopper pilot Matthew Loosemore, 45, deny one each.
They claim then-married Pogmore was to blame for the footage. The South Yorkshire Police chopper squad, which cost taxpayers £668,000-a-year to run, was disbanded in 2013.
Richard Wright QC, prosecuting, told the jury the entire team was responsible for the gross waste of a valuable resource.
The team made their first alleged sortie in 2007 when they ended up flying over a 43-year-old mum’s garden. A year later they “circled” over a nudist camp filming a couple sitting by their caravan, the court heard.
Later that day the helicopter focused on a couple who were “very much aware that they were being observed” and “indeed they seem to relish it”. “The reason that this couple are so happy to be recorded engaging in sexual intercourse is that they are friends of Mr Pogmore and shared his sexual interest in the swinging scene,” said Wright.
“You may hope that the police helicopter is chasing down criminals and keeping the community safe,” Mr Wright went on.
“You may never imagine that in fact it is being used to film a pair of swingers in the throes of passion.
“The entire crew could see this activity with the appropriately described naked eye,” he added.
During a fourth sortie in 2012, the camera zoomed in on the naked genitalia of a woman sunbathing nude in her garden with her husband, the court heard.
Copies of the recordings were found three years later as a colleague cleared out Pogmore’s drawers after he had been sacked from the force for misconduct. The trial continues.
