ROSE KEEN TO FOLLOW FED

JUSTIN ROSE has turned to tennis ace Roger Federer in his bid to serve up Open glory at Birkdale.

Rose has studied the eight-time Wimbledon champion to try and get inside the mind of the ultimate winning machine.

He looked on enthralled from the Royal Box last week as Federer tore up everything in front of him.

Rose revealed that he couldn’t take his eyes off the Swiss ace and every single thing he did on the way to glory.

He said: “Roger is the sporting athlete I look up to and can try and model myself on. Everything he does is pretty much spot on, the way he handles himself, and the grace in which he plays the sport is incredible.

“I scrutinise­d him and mentally how he doesn’t give much away. It is a style that’s well suited to golf, too.

“That’s one of the reasons I really wanted to go to Wimbledon. I watched his semi-final and obviously the final.

“There are a few tricks here and there that you can apply to golf. I’ve always found it a bit easier to learn from other sportsmen than I have from golfers.

“I can be completely impressed and in awe of him because I never have to face him.

“The whole occasion, the Royal Box and everything was amazing. It was the perfect Sunday to take off to sort of enjoy a day before heading up here.”

It’s almost 20 years since Rose, as a 17-year-old amateur, captured the hearts of a nation when he pitched in at Birkdale’s 18th to finish fourth in the Open.

That put him in wonderland… and now Legoland, as Rose revealed he has found a bizarre new way to impress his kids.
