ANYA SHRUBSOLE’S dream came true yesterday as she clinched World Cup glory for England.
Shrubsole had watched her father play in a club cricket final at Lord’s aged nine back in 2001 and then said: “What a place. I’d love to play here for England in a World Cup final’.”
Vice-captain Shrubsole was England’s hero with 6-46, including an astonishing 5-11 in 19 balls, as India collapsed to 219 all out with England squeezing home by nine runs.
England skipper Heather Knight said: “Anya Shrubsole – what a hero. I can’t stop smiling. I am so proud of this group of girls.
“We made it hard for ourselves but I couldn’t care less.

“We knew if we hung in and kept the rate at five or six then we would always be in the game and we held our nerve.” India were coasting with seven wickets in hand when Shrubsole took the key wicket of Poonam Raut, lbw for 86, and the inexperienced middle-order simply collapsed, losing all seven for just 28 runs.
And apart from her wickets, Shrubsole also played a key role in the run-out of Shikha Pandey, collecting sharply in
the covers and throwing back to wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor, when India were still in the game needing 14 off the last three
