Op fears for Greg

- By PETER OAKES

® GREG HANCOCK will visit a specialist today to discover if his world title defence is over.

The American superstar fears he may need surgery after being forced out of Saturday’s British Speedway Grand Prix in Cardiff without even completing a lap.

“I’m really upset. I tried the best I could and I think that’s what hurts,” said Hancock after his left shoulder popped out again following a tumble at home in Sweden.

“I just ran down the stairs like you do every day, slipped and my shoulder popped out.

“I put it back in myself but it popped out twice in practice.”

After it happened again in the opening race he withdrew, finishing pointless for the first time in 208 Grands Prix.

It leaves him 10th overall, 33 points behind series leader Jason Doyle who was runner-up in the final to Poland’s ex-Poole captain Maciej Janowski.

Brit Tai Woffinden just missed out on the semi-finals on countback and is now sixth overall.
