MOORS murderer Ian Brady’s body lies abandoned in a mortuary after undertakers refused to touch him.

No final resting place has been found for the twisted child killer, who died two months ago of a lung condition after 52 years behind bars.

THE bodies of Ian Brady and Manchester bomber Salman Abedi lie abandoned in the same mortuary – after undertakers refused to touch them.

The building – the location of which is being kept secret in order to prevent revenge attacks from outraged members of the public – has now been dubbed “Monster Morgue”.

And nobody knows how long the bodies will stay there for no undertakers want to get involved – while no cemetery or crematorium wants to host the funerals.

Moors Murderer Brady, who sexually tortured and murdered five children, once told a pen pal he wanted to be cremated to the Goons’ Ying Tong Song before having his ashes scattered in Glasgow.

But councillors in the city are refusing to let either of its two crematoriums take on the job.

Abedi, who killed 22 people when he blew himself up at the end of a gig by US singer Ariana Grande, has been snubbed by mosque leaders, councils and undertakers in Manchester, where he lived.

The 22-year-old’s remains could be sent back to his parents’ homeland of Libya after UK relatives disowned him. None turned up to the opening of his inquest.

Until funeral arrangements are made, the bodies are likely to remain in the same mortuary in the north west, outside the Greater Manchester boundary.

Although the Daily Star knows the location, for security reasons we have agreed not to identify where it is.

A source said: “The pair of them are effectively in limbo. Funeral directors don’t want them. No crematorium wants to process them. In the meantime they’re stuck in Monster Morgue. It may give some tiny crumb of comfort to relatives and friends of those whose lives they destroyed to know they are in anonymous purgatory.”

Brady died two months ago aged 79 in Ashworth Hospital, Merseyside, from a chronic lung disorder after spending 52 years locked up.

He and his lover Myra Hindley were jailed for life for the murders of Edward Evans and Lesley Ann Downey, both 10, and 12-year-old John Kilbride. The pair later admitted they also killed Keith Bennett, 12, and 16-year-old Pauline Reade.

Hindley died in jail in 2002 aged 60 of cancer.

Before his death Brady snubbed repeated requests to reveal where they had buried Keith’s body on Saddleworth Moor.

Coroner Christopher Sumner ordered Brady’s body to remain in police custody until he had been assured his remains would not be scattered over the moors. The killer’s lawyer, Robin Makin, refused to reveal the contents of his will or details of funeral plans.

Sheffield funeral director Michael Fogg praised colleagues for refusing to handle the body in a Facebook rant which went viral.

He said “scum” Brady’s sick crimes meant he was not worthy of a proper cremation.

He wrote: “Seems to me as though all the funeral directors in the north west are reluctant to touch the sick **** .

“I say good luck to them and ask people to share this post in the hope it gets back to those folk and show them the country is behind them.

“That filth never gave those poor kids a funeral on Saddleworth Moor so f*** him and a funeral.”

Meanwhile Manchester civic chiefs are “doing everything in their power” to stop Abedi being cremated or buried in the city where he detonated his bomb.

A source said: “Just like Ian Brady, every effort is going into making sure there is not a chance Abedi can be buried or cremated in Greater Manchester.’’

Brady’s inquest was opened in May but a date for the full hearing has yet to be set. Abedi’s was adjourned until the conclusion of the police probe into the Manchester Arena bombing.

Last night John Ward, acting first officer to Manchester coroner Nigel Meadows – who will conduct the bomber’s inquest – said: “The release of the body and any funeral arrangements are a private matter for the family, just the same as any other deceased person.’’

A spokesman for Sefton Council, in Southport, which is handling Brady’s inquest, refused to comment.
