THE parents of terminallyill baby Charlie Gard were heartbroken yesterday as they finally gave up their legal battle to save his life.

Chris Gard and Connie Yates broke down in tears outside the High Court as they admitted “time has run out” for their brave little warrior.

CHARLIE Gard’s parents ended their court battle to save their baby son as they admitted: “Time has run out.”

Chris Gard and Connie Yates had fought to convince judges to allow the tot to go to the US for treatment.

In emotional scenes at London’s High Court, their barrister said the couple now accept the damage done to the 11-monthold’s brain and body could not be reversed.

Both parents broke down as they read a statement saying they were sorry they could not save their “warrior” and always believed he “deserved a chance at life”.

Angels

But they also hit out at Great Ormond Street Hospital for stopping them from deciding what was best for their son.

They announced their decision as a High Court judge was preparing to oversee “fresh evidence” in a five-month battle.

Connie told the courtroom: “We are truly devastated to say that following the most recent MRI scan of Charlie’s muscles, we have decided that it’s no longer in Charlie’s best interests to pursue treatment and we will let our son go and be with the angels.

“There is one simple reason for Charlie’s muscles deteriorating to the extent they are in now – time. A whole lot of wasted time.

“Had Charlie been given the treatment sooner he would have had the potential to be a normal, healthy little boy.

“Our son is an absolute warrior and we could not be prouder of him and we will miss him terribly.”

Mr Justice Francis said no-one could comprehend the family’s agony.
