‘Shocking attack’ on tourists

SPANISH cops were last night blasted for being “heavy-handed” after whipping British holidaymakers – for singing.

Video footage shows a policeman running towards revellers and attacking them with a baton.

Witnesses said they also saw an officer whip clubbers at random as they stood in the road. Daniel Davis, who filmed the incident, said: “One of them had a leather whip, it was shocking.”

The roofer, who is on holiday with his girlfriend and family, videoed the 4am bust-up as he left a bar in the Mallorcan resort of Santa Ponsa at the weekend.

Problem

Daniel, 34, said: “Kids were chanting in the street. All of a sudden a car tried to get past and the police arrived.

“They came running in and were hitting everyone, they were so aggressive.”

Officers tried to make Daniel delete the footage. But his phone battery ran out.

Spanish authorities have vowed to crack down on rowdy behaviour, with heavy fines for offenders.

But Daniel, from Cumbria, said: “There is a massive problem over there. The police do not like anybody.

“They didn’t ask any questions, just got out the car, then bang, bang, bang. Girls were screaming: ‘What the hell has just happened?’

“I come to the same place every year and I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
