GUINEAS HOPEFUL TO TERRE UP FIELD?

Trainer talks up prospect

-

STAN JAMES ambassador Richard Hannon is confident of a big show from Tigre Du Terre in today’s Pat Eddery Stakes at Ascot (4.10).

He bolted up over course and distance last time and trainer Hannon is already talking next year’s 2,000 Guineas for this son of Le Havre – the 33-1 currently available for next year’s Classic could shorten if winning here.

Enable is a strong favourite to claim today’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Ascot 3.35) and the 7-4 available earlier in the week has well and truly dried up.

John Gosden’s charge is now 11-8 to emulate his other filly Taghrooda, who bagged this race in 2014 having won the Epsom Oaks that season. Receiving weight all round, it’s tough to see this high-class filly being beaten.

Jack Hobbs is no stable second string, however, and will relish any give in the ground – 5-1 could be too big for this one-time Classic winner.

Highland Reel bagged a below-par renewal last year but has arguably improved since then and punters have not ignored this 7-2 shot, who has been clipped in from 4s since declaration time.

Eclipse winner Ulysses has been popular and definitely enters the equation at 8-1, having stayed on well to score in the Sandown Group One last time.

The toughest betting heat of the day Brett Williams looks at all the weekend racing action comes in the shape of the International Stakes at 3.00 and from 10am Stan James will be top price all runners in the 7f cavalry charge.

Fastnet Tempest bids to back up his Victoria Cup win off a 10lb higher mark and currently heads the market at 6-1 with Ryan Moore in the plate and blinkers for the first time.

But in a typically wide open renewal, we’ve seen strong support for Viscount Barfield (8-1) and Shady McCoy, who’s now 25-1 from 33-1.

The Group Two York Stakes takes centre stage upon the Knavesmire at 3.15 and Autocratic tops the betting at 5-2, having won the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown in May.

But he won’t want the ground too soft, unlike Algometer who loves it when the mud is flying and he’s in to 9-2 from 5s.

Churchill and Ribchester go head to head in the Sussex Stakes on the Wednesday of Glorious Goodwood.

The latter is our 5-6 jolly to beat Aidan O’Brien’s charge, who could represent good value at 7-4 had he not ran at Royal Ascot last time.

Ascot Gold Cup hero Big Orange (4-5) bids to get punters off to a good start in the Goodwood Cup on day one on Tuesday
