KIDS OF 10 GIVEN SEX SWAP JABS

Treatment sparks fury

MORE than 800 children are being given sex swap drugs on the NHS – including some as young as 10.

The monthly injections, known as “puberty-blockers”, contain hormones that stop genitals, breasts and body hair developing.

The theory is that it will make it easier for doctors to carry out surgery when the child becomes an adult.

In 2014, the NHS abandoned the age limit at which these drugs can be prescribed.

Stephanie Davies-Arai, of Transgender Trend, a group concerned about the substantial increase in children claiming to be the “wrong” sex, commented: “These kids are not old enough to make life-changing decisions.

“It’s unethical to pursue this line of treatment with children who cannot possibly understand what they’re doing.” A spokesman ® for the Grassroots Conservatives campaign group also slammed the idea.

He said: “Adolescence is the age when you are in a turmoil because you’re trying to work out who you are and gender is a big part of that.

“So to introduce such powerful medication into that is unwise.

“This drastic notion that we should change our gender should be a last resort.”

Three leading American doctors last month wrote in a medical journal that the injections are “unsupported by rigorous scientific evidence”.

The view was backed up by professor of psychiatry Paul McHugh, who believes that the treatment puts children in danger.

He said: “There remains little evidence that puberty-suppression is reversible, safe, or effective.”
