WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

I DON’T know if you’ve spotted this but Usain Bolt is in pretty good nick. Comes from all that running, I guess. But I wonder how long he’ll stay this way.

In the documentary I AM BOLT (8.30pm, BBC1), he reveals how he feels about competing nowadays. This year’s World Athletics Championships, starting in London on Friday, will be his last big event, remember, and it sounds as if he can’t wait to pack it all in – just so he can let himself go.

“The older I get, the less fun it is,” he says. “You can’t party as much. You’ve got to cut back on going out drinking, if I’ve got to start eating properly, going to bed early and stuff like that, then for me it’s no fun.

“So I’m sad but I’m relieved that it’s over. This chapter is closed and I can just relax, go on vacation, eat some junk food and chill…”

I understand a follow-up, I AM BLOB, is scheduled for 2019.

IN BBC2’s new drama MAN IN AN ORANGE SHIRT (9pm), a newlywed wife finds something shocking in her husband’s drawers. The drawers of his desk, I mean.

It’s a bunch of love letters. So that’s a bit of a worry for her.

They say stuff like: “I dream of you every night.” So that sounds alarm bells as well. Oh, and they’re signed: Thomas. Now, this is the mid-1940s, when attitudes were a tad different. So besides the fact that he’s been deceiving his new bride on a fairly grand scale (and she’s played by Joanna Vanderham, for God’s sake. Who the hell would cheat on Joanna Vanderham..?), he’s also breaking the law. So how’s she going to deal with it, that’s the question.
