Give acid thugs a full-life sentence like they gave me

LAW MUST END HORROR

- By ALEXANDER BROWN news@dailystar.co.uk

AN acid victim who lost his eyelids has called for attackers to suffer a life sentence – just like their victims.

Andreas Christopheros, 32, was assaulted on his own doorstep and had 90% of his face burned.

Last night he warned: “I believe the UK has got its strategy towards this completely wrong. The ultimate repercussions for an acid attack are lifelong. I strongly believe that the sentencing for anyone who carries out any form of acid attack, whether their intended victim is injured badly or not, should serve a life sentence, with a minimum term of 20 or more years.”

Andreas, of Truro, Cornwall, spoke out after the surge in similar attacks. The father-of-one was assaulted in a case of mistaken identity in 2014.

His attacker wrongly believed he had sexually assaulted a family member.

Andreas had opened the door of his home expecting a courier with Christmas presents but the attacker threw a beaker of sulphuric acid in his face.

Lifted

He has lost his eyelids three times as the scarring on his face contracts.

But the thug has had his life sentence shortened to 16 years on appeal, with parole available after eight.

Andreas added: “Three judges ended up concluding that life should be lifted from his sentence because he’s deemed not to be a danger to society, which is probably the most baffling part of the whole story.”

Andreas was rushed to hospital and doctors told his wife he might not live through the night.

He was on “death watch” for weeks because of the risk of infection.
