Mo’s set to kill for more gold

GB CHIEF HAILS GENIUS

- By IAIN STEWART

MO FARAH is ready to “kill” himself to win 10,000m World Championship gold tonight. The four-time Olympic champion is odds-on to give Britain’s medal campaign the perfect start at the London Stadium on the opening night. Farah is convinced he is on the right path to make it a triple double in the 5,000m next week. Britain’s performance director Neil Black said: “Mo is a genius. He has the determination to come and kill himself for this thing that means so much to him, which is winning. “Every year it gets to a point where suddenly Mo knows that he is ready. “Last year it was the London Anniversary Games. This year it was probably about 12 days ago. “He did something in training without killing himself that confirmed to him and to the rest of us that he was ready. “He then takes his shoes off and says, ‘That’s it, job done’. You will see ® something special.” Farah’s coach Alberto Salazar will not be in London amid an ongoing US Anti-Doping investigation.

Black shrugged off fears following the leaking of one IAAF report which said Farah was a “likely doper”.

Black added: “There was nothing in the leaked report that was a surprise or a shock to me. I have known Mo since he was 15. You get to know people.”

Black knows the 87-strong British team will be under pressure to meet the target of six to eight medals, set by UK Sport, over the next 10 days.

After Farah, Britain’s medal prospects look bleak, with Laura Muir perhaps with the best chance in the 1,500m, with the heats starting tonight, and 5,000m.

CJ Ujah looks an outside bet in the 100m, where Usain Bolt begins his quest for a 12th championship gold tonight boosted by Canadian Andre De Grasse pulling out with a hamstring injury.
