WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY
THERE’s a fine line between a hit show and a disaster. Stick a bunch of reality show contestants in the middle of nowhere, for example, and have them fend for themselves, and with any luck you get I’m A Celeb.
But tweak a few details – use non-famous types, for instance, and turn it into some earnest, year-long social experiment, set in the Highlands – and you could all too easily get EDEN: PARADISE LOST (10pm, Channel 4).
Going out nightly all week, this series catches up with a group first seen a year ago, when wilderness challenge Eden was hailed as an exciting addition to Channel 4’s weekly schedules.
Catches up, that is, because the original show got axed after four episodes, a wee detail that its self-filming participants – who’d assumed Britain was still watching enthralled as they set out to build this alternative community – weren’t actually told about for some while.
Arguably, though, the unscreened stuff has made it way more interesting. As one guy now reflects: “We went a bit feral.” WILL the same be said about the couples on MAKE
OR BREAK? (10pm), Channel 5’s new nightly partner-swap thing, set at a Mexican resort? All the pairs involved are at a crossroads in their relationship, so the idea is that everyone pairs up with a different person every 48 hours. There are two reasons for this. First, so “expert-led behaviour workshops” and “therapy sessions” can offer them “a deeper knowledge of themselves”.
And second, so us lot can sit at home yelling stuff like: “What the hell’s she doing with that to**er?!”
