Kid Kyle not right just yet for Poch

- By IAN WINROW

TALENT: Walker-Peters ® MAURICIO POCHETTINO admits it is too soon to expect untried Kyle Walker-Peters to fill in for crocked Kieran Trippier.

The Tottenham boss will learn the full extent of Trippier’s ankle injury today after the right-back left Wembley on crutches following Saturday’s 2-0 win against Juventus.

He was injured in a challenge on Alex Sandro – but Poch has not given up hope of the defender recovering in time to face Newcastle on Sunday.

But his injury highlights a potential problem for the manager after Kyle Walker moved to Manchester City.

Walker-Peters, 20 – a World Cup winner with England Under-20s – is his only other right-back but has yet to make his debut, although he replaced Trippier against Juve.

And Pochettino admits he must plug the gap by bringing in new faces or rethinking his line-up.

The Argentine said: “He is very young. To give him a great responsibility, I think it’s too much for him.

“He needs to work with us and maybe start to play in different games.

Keen

“In the case of Kieran being weeks away from the team, we are working, and we were working before, to try and find a solution.”

Ben Davies, 24, is keen to follow Trippier’s example and establish himself as a regular starter.

Danny Rose’s injury has opened the door for the Wales left-back and Davies said: “Me and Kieran are definitely quite similar.

“We’ve been in and out of the team but when you get that jersey, you’ve got to try to make the best of the opportunity.

“This is going to be an opportunity for me to get some games and it’s all about trying to do well in those games, then we will see what happens.”

The trip to Tyneside will revive painful memories of Tottenham’s last visit when they lost 5-1 to an already-relegated Toon side 15 months ago.

Davies said: “It was a strange game and we’re determined for it not to happen again.

“It’s a game that’s kind of been wiped from our minds and it’s going to be us going there looking to be better than them.

“Hopefully we’ve grown and we can show that next weekend.” GARY CAHILL Outstanding PEDRO Daft tackle SUNDAY BEST: Arsene Wenger and Petr Cech lift up the Community Shield ARSENE WENGER was the toast of Wembley once again as a rush of blood from Pedro cost Chelsea the first silverware of the season.

Wenger, who won his record seventh FA Cup here against the Blues in May, lifted another trophy to celebrate signing his new two-year contract.

But, just as then, it came after Chelsea had a man sent off.

Victor Moses thought he had gone some way toward making up for his red card in the final when he scored what looked like being the winner for the champions.

But Pedro’s needless 80th-minute dismissal for a stupid challenge on Mohamed Elneny swung the game in Arsenal’s favour, with Sead Kolasinac grabbing a swift equaliser.

Kolasinac became the first player to open his Gunners goalscoring account in the Community Shield since Gilberto Silva in 2002.

And when £70m Chelsea new boy Alvaro Morata and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois both missed in the new-look ‘ABBA’ format penalty shoot-out, Olivier Giroud hit the winning spot-kick for the Gunners. Despite both teams keeping busy in the transfer market this summer, there was only one new face in the starting line-ups.

That honour went to £52m man Alex Lacazette, with Chelsea’s big signing, Morata, only fit enough to start on the bench.

Alexis Sanchez, who still refuses to sign a new contract, made it to the Arsenal dressing room but only in a suit as he is still short of match fitness after a bout of flu.

Revenge

Chelsea were looking for revenge after the Gunners won 2-1 here in May’s FA Cup Final to deny them another Double.

But it was Arsenal who started fastest, with Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi both testing Courtois. Then it was Lacazette’s turn, and the Frenchman lit up the game with a lovely first touch and curling shot which beat
